Ustazah Wan Nadia
Ustazah Wan Nadia was born and raised in Singapore. She is an alumna of Madrasah Al-Maarif Al-Islamiah, and was one of the pioneer students of Al-Zuhri Institute of Higher Learning. She received her first degree in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences from Islamic University of Malaysia in 2011 with first class honours. In 2017, she was conferred with Master’s degree in Curriculum, Teaching and Instruction from the National Institute of Education.
Ustazah Wan Nadia is the daughter of the esteemed Cikgu Yusuf Zuhri, former Director of Education in MUIS, where he contributed to the progression of the Madrasahs in Singapore and the Muslim community in general. He worked alongside contemporaries who were distinguished scholars of their time, such as the late Ustaz Syed Abdillah Al-Jufri and former Mufti, Sheikh Syed Isa Semait.
Additionally, Ustazah Wan Nadia is granddaughter to the late Kiyai Zuhri Mutammim (Cikgu Yusuf’s father), a prominent scholar of Singapore, Qadi, and expert in Islamic astronomy (Ilmu falak). He served as the Headmaster of Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah, served in the MUIS Fatwa Committee and, alongside his peers, formed PERGAS, becoming its first president. The current Madrasah Irsyad Zuhri Al-Islamiah and Al-Zuhri Institute of Higher Learning were named after him.
It was through this chain of knowledge inheritance - from grandfather to father, then father to daughter - that benefitted Ustazah Wan Nadia greatly and helped her build a sound perspective of Islamic worldview which emphasizes greatly on purification of the heart and the concept of ‘adab’ - putting things at its proper places.
At present, Ustazah Wan Nadia is one of the Board of Directors at Al-Zuhri Institute of Higher Learning, and managing WANs Education 21 - an Islamic Education centre focusing on Quran recitation learning and short courses for adults. She also has several e-books published, in which she mostly writes about life lessons learned through her travels.
