Revamp’s Qurban Shariah Compliance & Service Commitment Guidelines
Each livestock is selected according to the Islamic criteria governing the selection of animals for Qurban purposes. The mere distribution of meat is not sufficient. The criteria for a legally valid Qurbani must also be met. In order to achieve this, the procedures below are followed, according to the local norms, which may vary from one place to another, while still remaining within the confines of the Shariah and Sunnah.
Key factors to ensure that the Qurban is valid:
1. Qurban must be performed in the set time period (10th – 13th Dzul Hijjah).
2. All types of livestock (cows, sheep and goats) that are intended for the Qurban must be fit to be a ‘Qurban’ according to Islamic Shariah.
Only healthy animals can be used
The animals selected are of reasonable good weight
The minimum age of the Qurban livestock should be no less than one year of age.
All animals sought for Qurban must be free from any apparent defects that would make them unfit for human consumption. Such defects include blindness in both or one eye, missing limb or limbs and chronic sickness or disease which renders the animal unfit for human consumption.
All animals sought for the Qurban should be humanely transported from the marketplace to the slaughterhouse and slaughtered according to guidelines provided by the Shariah.
All meat yielded from the carcasses of slaughtered animals should be hygienically handled, packed, maintained and distributed to beneficiaries.
Through our local partners, we aim to achieve the slaughtering of all animals within a universally accepted time frame of three days of tashreeq post-Eidul Adha, while permitting extension into the fourth day (13th Dzul Hijjah) considering ground realities, local practice, and operational capacity.
In order to achieve the broadest level of acceptability, we strive to fulfil all Qurban by the 12th Dzul Hijjah and thus avoid any dispute regarding validity. However, due to both the numbers of Qurban received in some of the most popular field offices and the local acceptability for Qurban to be performed up to 13th Dzul Hijjah, our local Qurban partners permit Qurban up to 13th Dzul Hijjah with the caveat that this is acceptable as Qurban in the locality of implementation.
