Doa on the Night of Gaze
O Allāh…
we are here.
You see us as we are,
not as we appear,
not as we explain ourselves to people,
but as we truly stand before You.
Tonight we stand beneath Your Gaze,
not because we are worthy,
but because You are Merciful.
You see what we hide,
the wounds we never explain,
the regrets we carry quietly,
the sins we wish we could erase,
the prayers we were too tired to make,
and the hearts that are still trying.
O Allāh,
our deeds feel small,
but Your Mercy is not.
If anything good has ever come from us,
it was only because You allowed it.
And when we have fallen,
it is because we were left with ourselves.
So tonight,
we ask from You,
not because we deserve to,
but because You commanded us to ask.
You said,
“Ud‘ūnī astajib lakum.”
Ask from Me, and I shall answer.
So we ask You, O Allāh,
do not leave us to ourselves,
not even for the span of a blink of the eye.
O Allāh,
if our deeds cannot raise us,
let Your Mercy lift us.
If our records are heavy,
let Your Forgiveness be heavier.
Tonight, we ask You to look at us
with a Gaze of Compassion, not punishment,
with a Gaze of Acceptance, not rejection,
with a Gaze that cleanses the heart before it judges the limbs.
O Allāh,
forgive the sins we remember
and those we have forgotten,
those done in weakness,
those done in ignorance,
those done when we knew better but still chose wrong.
Purify our intentions.
Heal our hearts from resentment, envy, pride, and despair.
Remove from us the weight of what no longer serves our return to You.
O Allāh,
if our names are written among the heedless, rewrite us among the mindful.
If we are written among the distant, draw us near.
If we are written among those deprived, include us among those accepted.
Grant us a future better than our past,
a heart softer than it was yesterday,
and a faith that does not collapse under trials.
O Allāh,
look at our parents with Mercy,
our teachers with Honour,
our families with Protection,
and our children with Guidance.
Look at the Ummah with Relief,
the oppressed with rescue,
the broken with Healing,
and the lost with a way back to You.
O Allāh,
it is mentioned from Your Prophet ﷺ
that on this night You look upon Your creation,
and those You look upon are granted forgiveness.
As You forgive us on this night,
allow us to reach Ramaḍān, forgiven
and prepared for Your obedience.
O Allāh,
do not let this night pass
without forgiving us,
without easing us,
without drawing us closer to You.
We ask You not because we are deserving,
but because You are Allāh,
the Most Gentle,
the Most Forgiving,
the One whose Mercy has no limit.
We ask You quietly,
because we know who we are.
And we ask You confidently,
because we know who You are.
Accept from us,
forgive us,
draw us near to You,
and keep us firm.
Āmīn.
